Books like Magic or Not? (Tales of Magic #5) by Edward Eager
After relocating to a country house in Connecticut, Laura, along with her parents, brother James, and infant sister Deborah, discovers a well on the property. Believing in making wishes, Laura’s first wish comes true, launching a cascade of adventures for her and the young family.
With the help of local neighbors Kip and Lydia, Laura and James explore what appears to be genuine magic intertwined with everyday acts of goodwill. Their quests include safeguarding Miss Isabella King’s home from a mortgage foreclosure, rescuing a "long-lost heir," convincing the snobbish Mrs. Witherspoon to endorse a new school plan, and uncovering the secret hidden within an antique desk.
Through these escapades, the story blurs the line between reality and enchantment, leaving readers to wonder whether the events are truly magical or simply the power of goodwill and imagination.
