Books like Party of one by Dave Holmes
In *Party of One*, comedian and former MTV VJ Dave Holmes tells his humorous, heartfelt story of growing up as the artsy outsider in a sports‑oriented, Catholic family, and navigating the closeted gay scene of high school and college. Misplaced in advertising, he lands a spot as a VJ through a contest, launching a brief taste of fame. Through a series of funny, painfully honest anecdotes – living on the fringes, chasing recognition, and finally embracing himself – Holmes mixes music from Bruce Springsteen to En Vogue as both backdrop and metaphor. His memoir invites readers who feel the rhythm of being a square peg to find comfort and laughter in the universal struggle for belonging.
