Books like Mrs. Noodlekugel and Drooly the Bear by Daniel Manus Pinkwater
When their father competes to be the world’s speed‑knitting champion, brothers Nick and Maxine are left in the care of the eccentric Mrs. Noodlekugel. Mrs. Noodlekugel’s household is already unusual, with talking cats and four shrewd mice wearing glasses. The next day, a dripping, whiskered man‑like figure appears in the kitchen—Captain Noodlekugel, a former seaman who has taken to training animals for the circus. He arrives with a hefty bear named Drooly, who is meant to practice dancing. However, Drooly is clumsy, often wobbles, and falls asleep on the tulips. When the bear mysteriously disappears, the siblings must investigate and try to locate the big, clumsy creature before any further chaos ensues.
