Books like A walk across the sun by Corban Addison

When a tsunami devastates a coastal town in India, 17‑year‑old Ahalya Ghai and her 15‑year‑old sister Sita are left orphaned and homeless. Their desperate attempt to reach a convent school ends with abduction by human traffickers, thrusting them into the hidden world of sexual violence and illicit commerce that thrives on child innocence. Halfway across the world, Thomas Clarke, an American attorney abandoned by his wife and haunted by the loss of his infant daughter, takes a pro bono sabbatical with an NGO that prosecutes India’s traffickers. In Mumbai he confronts the corrupt judicial system and the horrors of the sex trade. Learning of Ahalya and Sita’s plight, Clarke dedicates himself to rescuing them and dismantling the international criminal network responsible for their suffering. Spanning three continents and two cultures, the narrative follows the sisters’ harrowing journey from disaster survivors to victims of human trafficking, and Clarke’s moral awakening as he battles a ruthless underground operation. The story illustrates the darkest corners of modern slavery and the resilience of those who fight against it.
