Books like Feast of souls by C. S. Friedman

In a realm where sorcery demands the burning of a human soul, Prince Andovan of High King Danton Aurelius's court is dying of the Wasting—an illness that secretly powers the kingdom’s Magisters. To protect his son, the High King summons a council of immortal sorcerers, who rarely collaborate, yet are compelled to unite for a grave secret: the link between their power and the souls they consume. Their mission is to hunt a traitorous Magister and sever the connection before the truth floods the mortal world. Alongside them, Kamala, a sold‑into‑prostitution survivor with fierce resolve, learns the dark arts from a reclusive Magister and may become the first woman to master true sorcery. Together, they confront the looming shadows of ancient evil and the perilous cost of power, questioning whether humanity’s own darkness threatens the kingdom more than any external foe. Themes of sacrifice, hidden societies, and the moral cost of power intertwine as the protagonists battle internal and external forces to protect their world.
