Books like Rollin' with Dre by Bruce Williams

In "Rollin’ with Dre," Bruce Williams—Dr. Dre’s longtime best friend, right‑hand man and co‑founder of Aftermath—takes readers deep into two decades of West Coast hip‑hop. Drawing on his own experiences as an owner of a downtown Los Angeles sports bar and as Dre’s key problem‑solver, Williams offers an unbiased, behind‑the‑scenes look at the formation of iconic albums such as "The Chronic" and "Doggystyle," the break‑up of Death Row Records, and the launch of superstars like Eminem, 50 Cent and The Game. The book chronicles major events—from Tupac Shakur’s tumultuous rise to the costly East Coast/West Coast feud and Suge Knight’s legal battles—while highlighting Dre’s personal relationships, including his reconciliation with Eazy‑E. Williams balances his dual view of Hollywood glamour and the gritty realities of the music industry, giving readers a unique, intimate portrait of the men behind the music and the culture that defined a restless generation.
