Books like Cowgirl, say yes by Brenda Mott

Wade Darland, a widowed cattleman on a Colorado ranch, is stubbornly attached to his old routines: he shuttles aging barn animals to auction and lives on meat, while his practical, no‑frills demeanor is constantly challenged by Tess Vega, a former show cowgirl who has founded a sanctuary for abused horses. Their clash over animal welfare and traditional ranching sparks a fierce, yet oddly affectionate, rivalry. Tess’s presence also stirs tensions within Wade’s family, especially for his young, mother‑less daughter whose own struggles mirror Tess’s past. Wade urges Tess to step back from the Darlands, warning her against getting too close to his daughter. Yet repeated encounters with Tess’s spirited, red‑haired confidence slowly erode Wade’s defenses, leading him to reconsider his hardened stance. Amid prairie sunsets and rowdy cattle, the story weaves romance, family dynamics, and the moral debate over livestock stewardship, culminating in a heartfelt question: can love prosper when the heart and the herd are both on the line?
