Books like Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston

When Quinton Peters disappears from the Rosewood housing projects, little Amari seems unfazed, but her family is stunned. A briefcase left in his closet reveals a secret invitation to a summer tryout for the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs —an elite training program for those who can handle the world of mermaids, dwarves, yetis, and magical creatures. Amari enters a competitive environment where classmates from wealthy families already know the supernatural landscape. With a weredragon as a roommate, she faces challenges that test her ability to navigate ancient lore and develop a unique, illegal talent. As an ominous magician threatens the supernaturals, Amari struggles with isolation and the pressure to succeed. Her goal: win the three rigorous tryouts before her classmates dismiss her as a foe, and she uncovers the mystery behind Quinton’s disappearance, potentially saving both the human and magical worlds.
