Books like Cage of Shadows by Anne Mather

Joanne’s memories of a kindly, bearded uncle, who had once been a pet to her as a child, shape her life and guide her to a mission: find him. She discovers Matthew Wilder, a handsome late‑thirties man whose beard is gone but whose presence is magnetic. His sudden disappearance to a remote Florida key leaves Joanne both puzzled and drawn to him. As Joanne uncovers the secrets surrounding him, she realizes that the man she has known and the one she has met are disconnected. Their paths intertwine in an intimate tale of longing and discovery, as she confronts the paradox of longing for someone she has always wanted yet who may not have waited for her. The story centers on the complex emotional journey of adult Joanne confronting her past, a mysterious figure, and a love that blurs the lines between memory and reality.
