Books like A House in the Sky by Amanda Lindhout

From a modest Alberta hometown, Amanda Lindhout set out to see the world, saving tips as a cocktail waitress to fund solo trips through Latin America, South Asia, and the Middle East. Her career as a TV reporter took her to war‑torn Afghanistan and Iraq, before she arrived in Mogadishu in 2008 to cover the fighting. Four days later she and her photojournalist companion were abducted by armed men. In a grueling fifteen‑month captivity, Lindhout survived chains, starvation, and abuse by relying on the imaginative refuge of a “house in the sky.” After her release she founded an organization that supports Somali education, turning the memory of her ordeal into a testament to courage, compassion and the power of forgiveness.
