Books like Alek by Alek Wek
Born in Wau, southern Sudan, Alek Wek’s early life was disrupted by the civil war that claimed nearly two million lives. Escaping on foot, she arrived in London and was scouted while shopping at a street fair. From that moment she transformed into a renowned fashion model, gracing covers of Elle and leading runways in Paris, New York, and Milan for designers such as Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel. This biography offers both a candid account of the Sudanese conflict and an intimate portrait of her extraordinary career.
