Books like Multiple choice by Alejandro Zambra

In "Multiple Choice," Alejandro Zambra experiments with form, presenting his narrative as a series of standardized test questions. Readers are asked to select answers to language exercises and brief passages that are often impossible to solve, blurring the line between reader and storyteller. The work interweaves humor and pathos to examine themes of love, family dynamics, and the lingering effects of authoritarianism on personal and collective consciousness. By challenging conventional narrative expectations, Zambra invites a participatory reading experience that questions how meaning is constructed and how obedience replaces independent thought. Critics have praised the book for its novel structure and thought‑provoking content, calling it a “literary exercise for the mind” that is both entertaining and politically sharp. It stands as a testament to Zambra’s reputation as one of Latin America’s most original contemporary voices.
