In 1922, Agatha Christie embarked on a 10‑month voyage around the world, accompanying her husband, Archibald Christie, on a trade mission for the British Empire exhibition. Leaving her two‑year‑old daughter in her sister’s care, Christie set sail in January and returned in December. Over the course of her travels, she kept detailed weekly correspondence with her mother, documenting the exotic sights, remarkable people, seasickness, sunburn, motor trips and surf‑boarding adventures she encountered in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Canada. The collection includes photographs taken with a portable camera, original postcards, newspaper cuttings and other memorabilia collected along the way. Now reproduced for the first time, the letters are accompanied by an introduction and reminiscences drawn from Christie’s autobiography, edited by her grandson Matthew Pritchard. This unique travelogue reveals an adventurous side of Christie that influenced her later, celebrated fiction.
