Freddy faces a challenging year when he is expelled from his first school for fighting and must start over at a new one. There he is required to attend regular counseling sessions—an awkward task for anyone, but even more so for a boy on the autism spectrum. With a mother who left years ago and a father who drinks heavily, Freddy’s personal life feels unstable. The arrival of Saskia, a fair‑haired girl he last saw a decade earlier and with whom he once shared group therapy sessions, changes the routine. Saskia appears quiet and distant, yet their reunion offers Freddy a much‑needed respite. As their meetings grow deeper, long‑repressed memories surface, leading Freddy toward an unexpectedly freeing moment of truth. The novel is a funny and touching exploration of friendship, adolescence, and the quiet strength of coming‑of‑age.
