She specializes in Native American issues, environmental justice, and decolonization, blending her academic expertise with activism. Gilio-Whitaker is a citizen of the Colville Confederated Tribes and holds a Master of Science in Native American Studies. She is dedicated to amplifying Indigenous voices and advocating for environmental and social justice through her work.
