Books like Normal by Warren Ellis

Warren Ellis’s *Normal* plunges readers into a near‑future setting where the line between strategic foresight and personal sanity blurs. Adam Dearden, a foresight strategist, seeks respite at Normal Head—an experimental forest in Oregon’s wilds. Here, the loneliness of predicting global calamities is supposed to be replaced by sylvan silence. However, the retreat turns into a mystery when a patient vanishes from a locked bedroom, leaving only a pile of insects. A thorough investigation ramps up surveillance, and Adam discovers a far‑reaching conspiracy that questions not only how we anticipate the future but also the very foundations of forecasting itself. The novel blends speculative technology, geopolitical tension, and the psychological cost of planning for impending doom. *Normal* demonstrates Ellis’s signature sharp, provocative style while exploring the ethical complexities of futurism and the limits of our control over an uncertain world.
