Books like The long fall by Walter Mosley

Walter Mosley’s latest mystery centers on Leonid McGill, a private investigator whose Manhattan office bears his name. A former boxer and habitual drinker, McGill navigates the city’s warm‑up to corruption and close‑knit families, all while keeping his wife and children fed. McGill’s profession places him in the line of fire, where he must mollify the New York Police Department and uncover the truth in a city that has reinvented itself on glossy surfaces. In "The Long Fall," McGill is called upon to dig up the seemingly innocuous for a prime‑time client, setting him on a path where his own moral compass and the city’s fragile public order are tested. With the backdrop of New York’s evolving skyline, Mosley explores themes of paternal legacy, racial identity, and the underbelly of the metropolis, creating a thriller that blends mystery, police procedural, and the simmering tension between old habits and new beginnings.
