Books like Divergent by Veronica Roth

Veronica Roth’s *Divergent* is the first book in a YA dystopian trilogy. The narrative follows Beatrice Prior, who adopts the name Tris after revealing her ability to belong to more than one of the city’s five factions. Set in a future Chicago, the novel centers on Tris’s initiation into the Dauntless faction, a pivotal event that tests her courage and forces her to confront the secrets of her identity. The book is written in short chapters and a first‑person point of view that keeps the pace brisk. Roth weaves action and humor with moments of romance, while also addressing serious themes such as individuality, social class, and the psychological challenges of growing up. The story’s vivid descriptions and emotionally resonant moments lend themselves well to both reading and the 2014 film adaptation, which, although enjoyable, does not fully capture the novel’s depth.
