Books like Changes for Kit! by Valerie Tripp
In 1934, during the Great Depression, Kit's uncle, a grumpy and often negative man named Frank, moves into their Cincinnati boardinghouse to help her parents run it. Frank is a piano player who tends to complain about the weather and how things are going. He asks Kit to help transcribe his letters to the local newspaper and get his negative opinions out to the public. However, the work is difficult and frustrating for Kit. Instead of just following Frank's complaints, she decides to write a different letter, one that shows the negative things she sees in the world but also offers a positive perspective. The experience changes her life and teaches her the value of writing for the betterment of society.
