Books like Only You Can Save Mankind by Terry Pratchett

Twelve‑year‑old Johnny is at home when his parents argue, news of the Gulf War blares on the television, and a new computer game, "Only You Can Save Mankind," lands on his desk. He quickly becomes engrossed, only to find the game’s fictional alien ScreeWee is more than a fantasy—it mirrors a real extraterrestrial threat. As events unfold, Johnny’s ordinary reality blurs with the game's urgent mission, forcing him to assume a role he never imagined for a child. Pratchett blends humor with a sincere portrayal of adolescence, highlighting how personal decisions and global events intersect. The novel invites readers to consider responsibility, the impact of media, and the unexpected ways a child can influence the world. With a blend of comedy, science fiction, and thoughtful commentary on conduct of life, "Only You Can Save Mankind" remains a bright, engaging read for young adults and adults alike.
