Books like My Soul to Keep by Tananarive Due

Jessica Hart, a successful Miami journalist, thinks she has found a perfect life when she marries David Markey, a brilliant and earnest family man. But the stability quickly teeters when those close to her begin to die under violent, mysterious circumstances. David’s reaction reveals a hidden truth: more than four centuries ago, he and members of an Ethiopian sect traded their humanity to achieve immortality, a secret he has guarded for generations. Their immortal brethren now insist that he must return to the cult, abandoning his family. David, refusing to lose the life he has built with Jessica, vows to perform a forbidden ritual that would bind her and their daughter to him forever. The story follows Jessica’s struggle between the desperation of the immortals who seek to claim her life and a husband determined to strip her of her soul. Through deft plotting and an unforgettable climax, the novel explores themes of love, mortality, and the costs of eternal life.
