Books like Elevation by Stephen King

Scott Carey has lost weight despite staying the same size in and out of clothing, and he cannot explain the strange changes he experiences. In the small town of Castle Rock, a place famous in Stephen King’s fiction, Scott becomes embroiled in a tense conflict with his lesbian neighbors over a dog that repeatedly urinates on his lawn. The women are running a new restaurant, but the town resists their presence because they are a gay married couple. As Scott learns to confront his own prejudices and the community’s fears, he forms unlikely alliances—including with his neighbors—and discovers that a local annual foot race and a mysterious affliction hold the clues to a larger secret. The story blends suspense, mystery, and social commentary, revealing how ordinary people can rise to meet extraordinary challenges.
