Books like Paper Thin by Shelia M. Goss

Living with an emotionally absent father and a spoiling stepmother, Sierra feels secure in material comforts but is haunted by the early loss of her birth mother. She conceals her fears with food and fashion, struggling to fit in with her friends. Sierra’s body is noticeably curvaceous compared to her peers, but after several weeks at a weight‑loss camp she returns to school twenty‑five pounds lighter. The change in her confidence turns her from a sweet girl into one with a diva‑like attitude. Her two close friends, Britney and Jasmine, notice the shift and comment on it. Not yet invited to the homecoming dance, Sierra’s jealousy is stoked by the excitement of her friends about outfits. Determined to win over a new guy, she embarks on a desperate mission to shed more weight by any means necessary. The story follows Sierra’s journey as she faces the dangers of extreme dieting and learns that true attraction comes from self‑respect, not numbers on a scale.
