Books like Intervention by Robin Cook

Former ophthalmologist Jack Stapleton has spent the past thirty years serving as a New York City medical examiner, but his career has never been wholly confined to the morgue. After a tragic accident destroys his family, Jack remarried and now balances the heavy demands of his job with fatherhood and his enduring activist spirit. Developed into a thriller by Robin Cook, the narrative follows Jack as he examines the body of a young college student who had recently been treated by a chiropractor. The case prompts Jack to investigate the rise of alternative medicine and the questions it raises about faith, science, and medicine. Jack’s classmates—archaeologist Shawn Doherty and Bishop Kevin Murray—reenter his life when Doherty receives permission to conduct a dig beneath St. Peter’s in a work that eventually leads him to Jerusalem and Venice. This dig uncovers discoveries that touch on both ecclesiastical history and the frontiers of DNA science, raising stakes for the Catholic hierarchy. Murray, meanwhile, must protect the Church’s political ambitions while grappling with a potential scandal that could threaten his ascent. Through detailed forensic analysis, cutting‑edge biotechnology, and a drama that pits religion against science, Cook creates a fast‑moving story that interrogates how modern medicine intersects with faith, power, and the search for truth.
