Books like Here by Richard McGuire

In *Here*, Richard McGuire turns a single corner of a room into a canvas for time itself. Through a series of comic panels, the narrative moves forward and backward, linking millions of years with everyday scenes. A dinosaur from 100,000,000 BCE shares space with a child in 1999 who plays with a toy that mirrors the same creature. Conversations jump across centuries, as a lost key in the present is "answered" by a distant future dig. McGuire experiments with the formal properties of comics, using the medium’s spatial logic to convey cycles of glaciers turning into marshes, forests, farmland, and eventually a submerged city. The story culminates in a reflection on the transient nature of all things, framing ordinary details as transcendent through the lens of time. The work blends science fiction, fantasy, and literary elements within the comic book form, emphasizing both the continuity and impermanence of human experience.
