Books like Exile's Return by Raymond E. Feist

The once-feared Duke of Olasko, named Kaspar, is defeated by the heroic Tal Hawkins, the Talon of the Silver Hawk, and is cast into exile. Forced to wander harsh deserts, forbidding mountains, and vast oceans, the former tyrant must survive in a world he once enslaved. In the midst of this journey Kaspar encounters merchants and travelers, and he ultimately discovers a mystical key that could unlock a dark and ancient power threatening Midkemia. With a lingering malevolence awakening, the broken duke faces an unexpected choice: to embrace the role of hero and protect the land that once suffered under his rule. As the stakes rise, Kaspar’s combat skills and cunning are tested against forces that surpass any he has faced, compelling him to confront his past and decide whether to act as the last hope for Midkemia’s future.
