Books like Seed of Doubt by Ralph M. McInerny

When affluent dowager Margaret Sinclair dies under suspicious circumstances in her Illinois home, Father Francis Xavier Dowling of the local Catholic parish is called upon to discern the truth. A locked oxygen tank within reach, a private nurse silent in the background, and Sinclair’s prized collection of landscape paintings by a renowned American artist set the stage for complex family intrigue. As heirs dispute the contents of her will, Father Dowling discovers that Margaret’s life and death were not ordinary, and a second death soon follows. The investigation leads him to a tragic mystery from Margaret’s youthful honeymoon, connected to the portraits that grace her mansion. With his keen intuition and moral resolve, Dowling uncovers long‑hidden secrets that bind the Sinclair family together in unexpected ways.
