Books like The warded man by Peter V. Brett

Each night, corelings—demons of sand, wood, wind, flame, and rock—bloom from the ground to assault the human herd that shelters behind fragile magical wards. For centuries, these wards have offered protection, but their power has waned amid rising demonic strength and dwindling human numbers. Once, under the legendary Deliverer and armed with potent wards that served as both shield and weapon, humanity fought back and halted the demons’ advance. Those days are gone. In this bleak era, three young survivors of demon attacks dare to step beyond the crumbling safety of the wards. Arlen, driven by loss, will sacrifice everything for freedom. Rojer, crippled by the demons that killed his parents, finds solace—and power—in music. Leesha, a healer shaped by suffering at both demon and human hands, wrestles with the dual nature of her craft. Together, they confront the night in a desperate quest to regain the lost secrets of the past and stand against the darkness.
