Books like A good year by Peter Mayle

Max Skinner’s world of high finance in London ends abruptly when his supervisor steals his major client. The sudden loss pushes him towards an inherited vineyard in Provence, a place his recently deceased uncle left behind. Arriving in the sun‑kissed landscape, Max is welcomed by a courteous notaire, the charming owner of a local bistro, and a caretaker eager to claim the land. As he learns that the wines produced are mediocre, a bright Californian woman with a credible claim on the estate arrives, adding intrigue. What follows is a lighthearted exploration of French customs, inheritance laws, and the fiercely competitive boutique‑wine trade, set against the scenic backdrop of Provence. Peter Mayle blends humor with the sensual pleasures of wine and scenery, inviting readers into a scene of delightful complications and satisfying resolutions.
