Books like Picasso by Pablo Picasso

In 1946, Picasso accepted an offer to use a grand room in the Château de l'Escapade at Antibes as his studio, declaring he would both paint and decorate the space. The resulting body of work—including murals like *La Joie de Vivre* and *The Sea Urchin Eater*, as well as sculptures such as *Head of Woman with Chignon* (1932)—captured the jubilant spirit of a liberated France. These pieces became the foundation of France’s first museum dedicated to the artist, inaugurated in 1966 as the Musée Picasso Antibes. The catalog, issued in conjunction with the Palazzo Grassi exhibition, features a notable selection from the Musée Picasso collection, many of which had never left the museum’s walls. In addition to paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics, it includes photographs by Polish artist Michel Sima that document Picasso’s creative environment during this period. This volume provides a comprehensive view of a pivotal phase in Picasso’s career, highlighting his experimentation across media and the cultural resurgence that framed his late 1940s work.
