Books like The castle of kings by Oliver Pötzsch

In 1524, amid the Peasants' War that shook early modern Germany, Agnes—a daughter of an aristocratic overlord who shuns traditional roles—follows her heart rather than fashion. When a rogue knight attacks her, Mathis, a childhood friend of lower birth, shoots the assailant to save her. The pair are forced to flee together through a landscape torn by rebellion. Over two years, they are captured and then escape various factions, fight in large battles, and form alliances with both nobles and peasants. As they travel the countryside, Agnes and Mathis fall deeply in love while confronting the social hierarchies of their time. Agnes’s falcon discovers a mysterious ring, and she experiences dreams that hint at greater revelations about identity and emerging German states. Oliver Pötzsch delivers a sweeping historical narrative that mirrors the scale of Ken Follett’s *The Pillars of the Earth* and the grit of Bernard Cornwell’s *Agincourt*.
