Books like Shortie like mine by Ni-Ni Simone

Seven McKnight is a bold, stylish sixteen‑year‑old who struggles to stay true to herself while being the thickest person in her clique. Her life is complicated further by her rebellious twin sister Toi, who is secretly dating a neighborhood thug. As Seven contemplates her evolving friendship with her best friend Deeyah and her attraction to the school’s hottest ballplayer Josiah, she must also confront the pitfalls of peer pressure, teenage relationships, and the desire for acceptance within her African‑American high‑school community. Shortie Like Mine is a coming‑of‑age story that explores friendship, dating dynamics, and the complexities of being a teenage girl in a fast‑paced social environment. It highlights the tensions that arise when personal identity clashes with group expectations and social customs, all while maintaining a humorous, relatable tone geared toward young adult readers.
