Books like Plum Island by Nelson De Mille

After recovering from a line‑of‑duty injury, NYPD homicide detective John Corey is on convalescence in rural eastern Long Island when the home of an attractive young couple he knows turns into a crime scene: both are shot dead on their patio. The victims, renowned biologists, had been working at the secluded Plum Island research facility, a site whispered to be a covert hub for germ‑warfare research. The local double murder suddenly takes on global implications, propelling Corey, along with two extraordinary women, into a perilous hunt for the hidden truth behind Plum Island. Corey’s investigation reveals a tangled web of secrecy, science, and terrorism, forcing him to confront the boundaries between civilian life and the shadowy world of biological weapons. As he delves deeper, the stakes rise and the danger escalates, raising questions about what dangerous knowledge can be buried in the quiet corners of Long Island’s countryside.
