Books like Never Mind the Pollacks by Neal Pollack

‘Never Mind the Pollacks’ follows two rival rock critics as they chronicle the evolution of rock‑and‑roll from the 1940s through the present day. The novel blends satire with close observations of music culture, offering witty commentary on the music industry, its artists, and its storytellers. By weaving real-life figures—from Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan to Iggy Pop and Kurt Cobain—into a comedic narrative, the book creates a layered portrait of America’s shifting musical landscape, all while maintaining a lighthearted, parodic tone. Published as the first novel by humorist Neal Pollack, the book was reviewed by the New York Times and has been described as a landmark in music‑themed fiction. The work contains more than two dozen original songs written by Pollack himself, further illustrating his dual role as chronicler and creator within the music world.
