Books like 88 Keys by Miles Chapin

Miles Chapin, great‑great‑grandson of Henry Engelhard Steinway, invites readers into the world of Steinway guitar masters’ craftsmanship, explaining the meticulous process from selecting and aging wood to the delicate voicing of each piano. The book profiles the skilled artisans: the strong men who bend grand piano rims to their characteristic curve, the "belly men" who fit the metal harp into the wooden frame, the carvers who shape the piano’s legs and pedal lyre, and many others whose specialized work culminates in a unique instrument. A companion musical timeline, a glossary of technical terms, and practical information on purchasing a Steinway piano round out this lively history, illustrating how Steinway & Sons have combined innovation, quality, and a dedication to musicians to become a world‑renowned name in piano manufacturing.
