During a breakdown on a rural English road, the creative team of the musical "Abracadabra"—including costume designer Lilla Osborne, choreographer Cappy Hirsch, magic consultant Teddy Cummings, musical director O. P. Oliver, writer Bennie Rosenberg, and ad executive Faye Gould—marshals onto the road in chaos. They arrive at a house owned by the show's producer and director, Danny Midas. Before their arrival, the famed clairvoyante Edwina Charles has taken up residence on invitation, adding a supernatural tone to the setting. Midas immediately suspects that one of the stranded performers is plotting his death. With telephone lines cut and the cars disabled, the group is isolated and fearful. Multiple murders occur before the killer is finally revealed, turning the gathering into a tense detective story.
