Books like London rules by Mick Herron

At MI5 headquarters in Regent’s Park, Claude Whelan, a First Desk officer, is tasked with protecting a beleaguered prime minister amid a series of escalating threats. From a show‑boating MP who once orchestrated the Brexit vote, to a tabloid‑columnist wife and the PM’s favorite Muslim candidate, the tactical landscape is as complex as it is perilous. Meanwhile, the nation is rocked by a string of terror attacks that force Whelan to confront his own past mistakes. Across from the main office, Slough House—MI5’s satellite outpost for misfit and demoted operatives—deals with its own crises. Agents there wrestle with grief, addictions, and the suspicion that their newest colleague may be a psychopath. As they attempt to thwart a plot against Roddy Ho, they must confront the broader reality that the country’s security is fraught with unseen vulnerabilities. London Rules interweaves personal ambition, political scheming, and the relentless pressure of national security, illustrating how the greatest strength of the intelligence service lies in navigating chaos while safeguarding the state.
