Books like Bill & Dave by Michael S. Malone

Bill & Dave chronicles the founding of Hewlett‑Packard, beginning with the first meeting of Stanford students Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard on a football field bench and their later work in a Palo Alto garage building an audio oscillator. Drawing on exclusive corporate and private archives and hundreds of employee interviews, author Michael S. Malone presents the full story of how HP’s early days produced some of the era’s most influential products and established the company’s reputation for innovation. Malone also examines the "HP Way," a management philosophy that emphasized people over products or profits, describing it as a hard‑nosed, competitive, and adaptive approach that fostered trust, self‑appraisal, and unparalleled success. Through detailed research, the book offers readers an inside look at the people, products, and practices that transformed HP into a global technology leader and helped shape the culture of Silicon Valley.
