Books like Big kids by Michael DeForge
Michael DeForge’s first graphic novel follows a troubled teenager as he navigates the transformative period of high school. After his uncle, a police officer, is transferred to the countryside, the boy’s family moves in with April, a mysterious and cool college student. April and her circle of friends—referred to as “big kids”—influence the boy to reassess his habits, stop casual sex and drug use, and pursue healthier interests. Through this shift, DeForge examines the complex feelings and choices that define adolescence, offering a nuanced, introspective look at growing up. The work’s distinctive, idiosyncratic style and thoughtful pacing have earned it recognition, including inclusion on the New York Times bestseller list for hardcover graphic books.
