Books like The Wednesday daughters by Meg Waite Clayton

Hope Tantry arrives at a small cottage in England’s pastoral Lake District, the retreat where her mother Ally spent her final years. Ally, an avid writer, had been working on an unpublished biography of Beatrix Potter while living among a close‑knit group of women she called the Wednesday Sisters. Hope knows little about her mother’s past there, so she brings friends Anna Page and Julie—women who had once met as girls in The Wednesday Sisters—to help sort through her mother’s belongings. In a hidden drawer they find a stack of Ally’s notebooks, all written in a mysterious code. As Hope, Julie, and Anna Page attempt to decipher the encryption, they uncover clues that may link Ally’s writings to the Potter manuscript and reveal the true purpose of her stay in England. The search forces each of them to confront personal doubts—Hope’s uncertainty about her marriage, Julie’s grief over a lost twin sister, and Anna Page’s fear of commitment—while deepening their bonds of friendship and family. Their journey ultimately brings new understanding of enduring family ties, the enduring power of love, and the inescapable pull of the past.
