Books like Keeping kids reading by Mary Leonhardt

From the author of Parents Who Love Reading, Kids Who Don't comes a highly useful consideration of how students' taste in reading develops & how it can be nurtured. Drawing on her 20 years of experience as a parent & a high school teacher, Mary Leonhardt offers valuable advice on ways to foster a love of reading, they tend to follow certain "reading pathways." For example, girls who binge on Sweet Valley High books typically go on to like books dealing with contemporary relationships & problems, while girls who begin with a fondness for warm & nostalgic stories like those by Laura Ingalls Wilder go on to love historical novels & romances. Leonhardt discusses how parents & teachers can take advantage of a number of such reading pathways to help students move up to more sophisticated material while retaining their enthusiasm for reading. Keeping Kids Reading is written in the author's warm, enthusiastic style & is rich with practical advice that will be welcomed by anyone who is interested in raising lifelong avid readers.
