Books like Bent by Martin Sherman
Bent, written by American playwright Martin Sherman, portrays the struggle of two gay men—an early 20th‑century dramatist and a Vietnam‑era soldier—forced into the horrors of a Dachau concentration camp during World War II. Their relationship, marked by deep affection and mutual support, stands in stark contrast to the brutality and dehumanization surrounding them. Originally conceived as a stage play, Bent was later adapted into a 1997 film starring Clive Owen and Lothaire Bluteau. The piece explores themes of love, identity, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of persecution.
