Books like An Unfinished Life by Mark Spragg

In the dusty plains of Wyoming, Jean Gilbert’s life spirals after the loss of her husband, and a decade later, her daughter Griff arrives on the ranch of her estranged father‑in‑law, Einar Gilkyson. Einar, a Korean War veteran, harbors deep resentment over a past tragedy that claimed a son’s life and left him crippled. Forced to confront an old wound and a fractured family, the two men, bound by wartime brotherhood, must reconcile with the past while navigating the challenges of aging and livestock. Griff, having grown up with a mother who fled to another country, finds herself caught between her father’s sudden death, her mother’s choice of companions, and the hope of a new family. Together they face kindness, grief, and the calamitous Bear attacks threatening their ranch life. Through the rugged landscape and the slow rhythm of ranch work, the characters confront forgiveness, friendship, and the legacy of war, weaving a narrative that explores family ties, male friendship, and the healing power of homecoming.
