Books like Gunmetal Gray by Mark Greaney

Five years after going underground, former CIA operative Court Gentry is drawn back into the agency’s fold. His first assignment takes him to Hong Kong, where two Chinese agents are trying to silence him. The agency’s unusual enthusiasm for removing an enemy spy marks a departure from China’s usual discreet approach. Facing relentless pursuit, Gentry’s mission turns personal when he learns his old colleague Donald Fitzroy has been taken hostage by the Chinese. Fitzroy had been contracted to locate Fan Jiang, a former member of a clandestine Chinese computer‑warfare unit responsible for testing the nation’s own security systems. China now seeks to eliminate Fan, believing his expertise poses a threat. Gentry’s task is to locate Fan before the Chinese can, steal the intelligence he holds and deliver it to the United States, then escape alive. The story follows his perilous journey through Southeast Asia as he navigates double agents, surveillance, and a race against time.
