Books like The Hallowed Hunt by Lois McMaster Bujold

In the land where kings rise and fall, the dying Hallow King’s premature death thrusts the crown into jeopardy. Ingrey of Wolfcliff is dispatched to retrieve the body of the dead prince Boleso and bring the accused Lady Ijada to judgment. Their journey is complicated by a sinister gift the prince’s act imposed on Ijada—a curse that haunts her with forbidden powers and a terrible destiny. Ingrey, himself bound by a long‑held beastly burden, must wrestle with his growing attraction to Ijada and an urge to kill. As they travel through perilous terrain, enemies lurk that seek to use the grim secret for their own designs. At the heart of the tale is the struggle of the haunted lord to control his own fate and the powerful influence the cursed spirit has on Ijada’s fate, all set against a backdrop of royalty, sacrifice, and political betrayal.
