Books like Sparkle boy by Lesléa Newman

Casey’s world is bright and shiny, filled with blocks, puzzles, and a dump truck that gleams in the light. He revels in anything that sparkles, from glittery nail polish to shimmering skirts. When his older sister Jessie shows off a new shimmery skirt, Casey is eager to wear one too. Jessie, however, feels uneasy about the trend. When Abuelita visits wearing sparkling bracelets, Casey asks for one, and his parents gladly embrace his enthusiasm. Jessie remains unsure, and the story explores the challenges Casey faces at home and school as he pursues his love of sparkle. Along the way, the book highlights themes of gender identity, teasing, and bullying, and examines how family dynamics can either support or challenge a child’s authentic self. The narrative follows two siblings who navigate their differences and find their own ways to express themselves. The story showcases the importance of supportive adults and respectful sibling relationships in the face of identity and social pressures.
