Books like Parallel Hells by Leon Craig

Parallel Hells is a debut anthology that blends folklore and gothic horror to examine queer identity and the complexities of being human. Across thirteen stories – from a clay golem surpassing its creator’s expectations to a ruined mansion granting secret wishes – Craig’s narratives blend supernatural intrigue with contemporary themes. Each tale unfolds in distinct settings, from ancient London to the halls of Oxford, while confronting issues of loneliness, selfish desire, and the search for belonging. The collection features vivid characters such as Asta, an ancient being who preys on shame; an Oxford historian battling rivals; and lovers struggling to defy a lethal curse. Together, these stories form a darkly audacious exploration of desire, violence, and the quest for identity in a world that often feels like hell.
