Books like Fade by Kyle Mills

In the aftermath of the new war on terror, a secret division of Homeland Security recruits covert operatives for missions in the Middle East. The director enlists former friend Matt Egan to bring aboard Salam Al Fayed—known on the field as Fade—an ex‑Navy SEAL whose flawless Arabic makes him an ideal candidate. Fade, however, is wounded from a prior operation, a bullet left near his spine, and was once denied the costly surgery the government offered. Bitter over this treatment, he has become embittered toward the authorities and even towards Egan, whom he blames for his condition. Though the director tries to persuade Fade to return to service, the ex‑SEAL refuses, prepared to strike back at any cost. As Fade turns into a fugitive, the chase heats up—will Egan succeed in retrieving his friend before Fade unleashes a retaliatory attack? The novel explores themes of patriotism, friendship, betrayal, and the moral complexities of modern intelligence operations.
