Books like Another time, another place by Kesson, Jessie

Set in a remote Scottish crofting community during the summer of 1944, the novel follows the arrival of three Italian prisoners of war billeted in a village in the north-east of Scotland. For most locals, the brief stay seems a brief, almost unnoticeable event that does little to disturb their isolated routine. However, for the wife of a young farmworker whose job is to care for the POWs, the presence of these foreign men brings a glimpse of a distant and exotic world. Their interactions stir dormant aspirations in her, rekindling dreams of a future far removed from the everyday life she has known. Through the lens of wartime distance, the story intertwines the everyday rhythms of country life with the complex emotions of man‑woman relationships and social change. It offers an intimate look at how an unexpected encounter can reshape individual outlooks and highlight the subtle connections between communities connected by war and cultural exchange.
