Books like We fed an island by José Andrés

When Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, chef José Andrés arrived four days later to find an economy in ruins, lacking clean water, food, power, and communication. Using his culinary expertise, Andrés and his team opened community kitchens, cooking a staggering 100,000 meals a day in more than a dozen locations. They served traditional dishes such as sancocho and large paellas, bringing sustenance to hundreds of thousands of people. The book provides an insider’s account of the crisis, highlighting the deep-rooted issues in the disaster response system and the often ineffective and wasteful practices of large charities and NGOs. Drawing on conversations, messages, and interviews, "We Fed an Island" documents how grassroots kitchens sparked real change and offers suggestions for future disaster relief. A portion of the book’s proceeds supports the Chef Relief Network of World Central Kitchen.
